Program Support Supervisor 2
About the Position: The Program Support Supervisor 2 is a shared appointment with Physical Education, Health and Recreation Department (PEHR) and Extended Education (EE). The position is responsible for hiring, supervising, and evaluating 100-level Physical Activity Course instructors. The position will assist in the development of new PEHR activity courses, program policies, curriculum, and budgets while working closely with both the EE and PEHR Departments. Additionally, the position will perform program development and coordination duties in support of general EE offerings.

This position is part of a Public School Employees of WWU bargaining unit. New employees are required to meet the membership requirements of the current collective bargaining agreement within 30 calendar days of employment.

About the College/Department: Extended Education
Position Responsibilities:
  • Assist with the planning, implementation and evaluation of program policies; devise and implement new procedures to facilitate the administration of the Activity Course Program; assist in the development of and/or make recommendations for new course offerings based upon industry trends and student demand
  • Work closely with the PEHR Chair, Faculty and PEHR liaison to the Activity Program in the preparation, selection, and evaluation of course materials; implement any curricular policy changes
  • With delegated authority, interview and recommend selection of instructor applicants, orient new instructors, schedule courses, act upon leave requests, and conduct (quarterly and annual) performance evaluations
  • Provide support and advise for instructors, including input on unit planning and resources
  • Develop information to support budgetary matters, working under the direction of the Extended Education Director of Financial Management, to include projecting expenditures required to maintain program activities and maintain appropriate records related to funds
  • Work closely with the PEHR Department Manager and Sports Equipment Managers to insure space and equipment requirements are met for the academic courses
  • Advise students, staff and the campus community regarding program content, policies and activities
  • Represent the program at meetings as needed
  • Develop, implement, and monitor requirements for instructor teaching qualifications and professional certifications; make recommendations regarding instructor compensation based upon both experience and credentials
  • Direct the course and instructor evaluation process for all activity courses
  •  As needed, assist with course and instructor evaluation in KEP major courses in PEHR
  • When feasible, and with supervisor approval, teach a physical activity subject area of instructional expertise (must maintain current professional certifications associates with area of instructional expertise)
  • Perform program development and coordination duties in support of general EE offerings
  • Establish work priorities and ensure that deadlines are met
  • Assume duties as assigned
Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education, Kinesiology or Education
  • One year part- or full-time experience teaching and working in a university level academic physical activity program
  • Experience supervising and managing activity course instructors
  • Ability to work effectively with a diverse range of constituents, including students, faculty and staff
  • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel and Outlook
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Current certification(s) for teaching an activity course
  • CPR and First Aid credentials
