Fiscal Specialist 1
About the Position: This is a part-time (32 hrs/week) project-employment position ending January 31, 2014. Under general supervision the Fiscal Specialist 1 performs one or more fiscal administrative support functions for the division such as establishing and maintaining a comprehensive system for recording fiscal activity, coordinating purchasing functions and expenditure control, or coordinating payroll/personnel recordkeeping functions. The Fiscal Specialist will exercise independent judgment in interpreting and applying rules and regulations to resolve problems; incumbent uses established procedures in recording, summarizing and reporting fiscal activity.

This position is part of a Washington Federation of State Employees bargaining unit. New employees are required to meet the membership requirements of the current collective bargaining agreement within 30 calendar days of employment.

Position Responsibilities:
  • Maintain and modify fiscal record keeping systems, databases, and spreadsheets; review fiscal records; may assist in formulating corrective action
  • Maintain a record keeping system for recording budget transactions; review budget reports, verify accuracy and take corrective action of necessary and reconcile budget status reports
  • Maintain purchasing records and resolve problems; ensure compliance with departmental, institutional and/or granting agency policies, rules and regulations
  • Maintain and process travel expense records; ensure compliance with state and institution regulations and procedures
  • Assist with preparing and compiling fiscal reports, budgetary reports, and auditing reports
  • Assist with development of budgets for grant or program requests
  • Maintain all filing systems for the division unit as assigned, including archival records; prepare new files or categories within the filing systems
  • Other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications:
  • High school graduate or equivalent
  • Four years of progressively responsible experience in office, secretarial, bookkeeping, accounting, or general administrative work or equivalent
  • Proficiency with Outlook, Word, Excel, Visio
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Proficiency with Student and Banner Finance Modules
