Student Retention & Initiatives Manager
About the Position: The Student Retention & Initiatives Manager provides administrative direction, support and leadership in departments under the purview of the Associate Dean of Students. The position works in tandem with the Associate Dean on on-going and new initiatives, programs and special projects particularly as they pertain to undergraduate students.
About the College/Department: Student Outreach Services, within the Division of Enrollment and Student Services. Enrollment and Student Services is committed to the recruitment, retention and graduation of students at Western Washington University. Position Responsibilities:
  • Represent the Associate Dean’s areas in the administrative coordination, development and implementation of retention-related activities within the Division of Enrollment and Student Services
  • Plan, collect, organize and manage extensive data touch-points to be evaluated and assessed; develop effective methods of data collection and assessment
  • Ensure validity and accuracy of data and compliance with quality control requirements
  • Design and conduct qualitative research projects, analyze findings, develop conclusions, write reports, prepare presentations of relevant findings and conclusions, and recommend appropriate action
  • Summarize and prepare manuscripts, presentations, and proposals by providing and presenting statistical information as tables, charts, or graphs
  • Research current retention best practices implemented by colleges and universities that aid in student success; research grant opportunities that enhance the success of first-generation and/or Pell eligible students
  • Design and/or deliver formal, high-caliber presentations of research findings to broad and diverse audiences; write reports and/or white papers when required
  • Perform special assignments and projects as needed
  • Represent the Associate Dean at meetings and provide departmental leadership as assigned
  • Assist in assessing advising and other program services through research/survey activities and the analysis of outcomes
  • Join the Enrollment and Student Services Division’s Assessment Resource Team (D.A.R.T) and collaborate with various departments on assessment projects when needed
  • Learn/apply the tenets of holistic student advising in higher education
  • Other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree
  • Two years of professional experience performing work that has included qualitative and quantitative research and analysis
  • Strong public presentation and written communication skills
  • Experience with assessment and data collection/analysis/reporting and writing
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), web browsers, and databases
  • Experience organizing and tracking multiple projects with competing deadlines
  • Experience working effectively with different and diverse constituencies and at-risk populations
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree in Student Affairs, Education, Business, or a social science field
  • Strong knowledge of the principles and practices of student retention in higher education
  • Experience working with high-level administration
  • Experience using statistical software i.e. SPSS
  • Experience using CampusLabs
  • Experience using Qualitative Analysis software i.e. NVIVO
